Local Information

The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki has a long history and is the largest university in Greece. The main campus is located near the centre of Thessaloniki and covers an area of about 33 hectares. The University comprises 10 faculties, consisting of 40 schools and 1 single-school faculty.

The historic city of Thessaloniki was founded around 300 BC and it is the second largest in Greece. The city is located on an inlet of the Thermaic gulf, at the northewest corner of the Aegean Sea, with commanding views of mount Olympus. 

 

Getting here from the airport

You can reach the city from the airport, bys bus or by taxi.

  • By Bus 

Transit bus service is provided between the Airport and the city of Thessaloniki, with connections to the Central Railway Station and the "Makedonia" Regional Coach Terminal (KTEL).

Bus services from the airport to the city run every 30 minutes and the fare is 2 €. The journey to the city center takes about 40 or 50 minutes.

Tickets can be purchased by vending machines on board the service. On-board machines accept exact change only.

Students and Senior citizens (65 years of age or older) are eligible for 50% reduction; children aged 6 and younger travel free of charge.

  • By Taxi 

Taxi fares from the airport to the city vary between 20 and 25 Euros, depending on luggage. The night fare (24:00 - 06:00) is double.

 

Chalkidiki is about 1 hour drive from Thessaloniki and has some of the best beaches in Greece!!!
